Concert - 7:00 pm on November 30We have our first concert of the year on Wednesday, November 30 at 7:00 pm in the Auxiliary Gym. All three concert band will be performing. The Concert Winds performs first, Symphonic Band will follow, and the Wind Symphony closes the concert. The student report time is 6:30 pm. Concert Dress is black dress pants, black socks, black shoes, and the white GHS Band Polo. Freshmen and new students who have not received the polo, they will get them next week.
School referendumThe voters of the Germantown School District approved the $84 million referendum last week. This is exciting news for the music department, since it includes a Performing Arts Center/Auditorium. We have been in discussions with the administration about the timeline and the design. We have also been talking with our fellow music teachers who have auditoriums at their schools. We will be working to build the best facility possible.
FundraisingThere are two fundraising opportunities for the band trip after Rome. -Fruit Sale. This was done last year with the choir. We are again working with the choir for this sale. Order forms are due by November 28. -Marcus Center Gift Cards. A great stocking stuffer. Orders are due by December 2. Order forms for both sales are available in the band room.
College 101 by Tri-MOn Wednesday, Nov. 23, Tri-M presents this panel discussion with recent GHS graduates. Topics include a description of the first college semester, what they did over the summer to prepare, what they did or wish they had done in high school to prepare, and what they wish they would have known earlier. PracticeThis is the primary homework of your band class. There are lesson assignments, band music, concert music, and more. There is always something to be working on to improve your playing.
Pep BandMr. Stone handed out the pep band sign up form this week. The four practices and eight game schedule is available in the band room. This is a great time for all involved. The applications are due on Friday, Nov. 18. Some of the practices are on the same nights as Italy practices. This is on purpose. Since some of the same music is used by both groups,
Instruments NeededFor the Rome Tour, alto sax, trumpets, trombones, French horns, and baritones are shipped on Friday, Dec. 16. They will return shortly after the new year. If you have any and are willing to loan to a traveler, it would be greatly appreciated. Please email Mr. Bell (firstname.lastname@example.org) if you can help.
Wall of Sound at KMS.Wednesday, Nov. 23 is the annual Wall of Sound performance at KMS. We perform for all three grades. The students report to GHS, we bus them to KMS, perform, and bus back to GHS before the end of the day. Wall members will be able to make their usual bus routes, like any other school day. Each performance is 30 minute, with 5 minutes in between. Parents are welcome to come and watch. If you do, please make sure you check in at the gold office and get your visitor name tag. Students need to wear their Wall of Sound T-Shirt. Blue or Black pants. Blue jeans are acceptable. Here is the schedule for the day. 6:30 -Percussion report to prepare equipment for transportation. 7:10 -As soon as you arrive to GHS, go to the band room. We will start loading the bus for the trip to KMS. 7:55 - 8th Grade8:30 - 7th Grade9:05 - 6th Grade.9:35 - End of last show. We pack up and return to GHS, in time for you to catch your bus home.
